Team Gorilla Squad Muay Thai is led by Coach Geo Encarnacion. Geovanny “Geo” Encarnacion was born in Puerto Rico where he was diagnosed with a severe case of Scoliosis. Doctors there said he would never be able to do any physical activity and would even have trouble walking. At age 9, his family moved to the States where he received medical attention at Shriners Hospital which entailed wearing a body brace until the age of 13.
Freshmen year of high school Geo was introduced to Wrestling by his then brother-in-law, Casey Strand. The doctors were amazed at the muscle growth and strength he developed while training. Senior year of high school the doctors gave Geo two options: have corrective surgery and give up Wrestling or continue helping yourself and live with your condition as is. He chose Wrestling.
Today, Geo is an active Professional Mixed Martial Artist who has fought with organizations such as: Strikeforce Fighting Championship, Palace Fighting Championship, Gladiator Challenge, Cage Combat Championship, Rebel Fighter, and Dragon House. In 2001, Geo started his Muay Thai training with his coach, Dan Black. In 2007, Geo started teaching Muay Thai at various locations throughout the East Bay including his own home where Team Gorilla Squad was created. A small team consisting of a few friends and family members such as his wife, son, and brothers.
Geo is known for his unorthodox style of training; always thinking outside the box. From his MMA background he has learned to infuse Muay Thai with other artistry such as boxing. Geo is a family man who teaches his class with tough love. With all the obstacles he has overcome, he knows how to translate that towards his student’s success. Geo is the true definition of perseverance.
